Peacocks has become the latest high street store to stock replicas of bestselling designer dresses.
They announced today that they would be opening a ‘budget boutique’, which launches in two weeks time, featuring replicas dresses at a fraction of the price.
Their dresses sure are similar to the originals but this reminds a little of when Topshop was sued by Chloe back in 2007, for that now famous yellow dungaree dress incidence, where Topshop produced almost a replica of the dress for £35 (the original retailed for £185), making the moral of the story: some things are best left to the professionals.
Anyway coping aside, here is a sneak preview of the collection.
Left: a gorgeous day dress from Erdem’s SS11 collection, one of my personal favourite collections, which retails for £1,070
Right: a copy in Peacock’s boutique, which retails at £35
Left: a floral maxi from D&G’s gorgeous, floral SS11 collection, which retails for £2,835
Right: the Peacocks version which will cost you only £40
Left: A Mad-Men inspired Prada dress from their AW10 collection, which was beloved by celebrities last year
Right: the cheaper Peacocks version, which will cost you £38
This boutique is sure to be a good idea in the recession, but for me, couture always wins, even if I can’t afford the hefty price tags.
Let me know what you think!
